Free Book Month Winners
Well, Free Book Month has come and gone. In honor of my first year of blogging, I promised to give away five copies of RADIO FREEFALL this month. I planned a series of contests that would pit fierce competitors against one another to win a signed copy of the book delivered right to their doorsteps.
The first copy went to Luke Forney, who battled his way into first place by showing up. The second went to PixelFish who actually entered a contest at John Scalzi's blog. John got so many good entrants to his LOLCreation contest that I felt obliged to award a prize to my favorite. The third prize goes to Sean, for figuring out what my influences were in writing RF, taking all these books off his shelf, and taking a picture.

Thanks, Sean. I think you got it right, although I never read Tuf Voyaging. I've been meaning to get around to reading more Martin, though.
And thanks, everyone, for participating in Free Books Month. I hope you all will be back next year when I'm giving away copies of my next book.
"Wait, wait, I though you said five books. That's only three!"
Right. Yeah, the thing is, I had another contest, to come up with the best contest to give away a book. That was supposed to take care of books four and five. Nobody entered the first contest, so I didn't have the second one, so I didn't get to give those books away.
"So you're not really giving away five books? What a gyp!"
All right, all right. Here's what we'll do. The first two people who ask me nicely for a book in the comments to this thread will get one. Not one of the epic struggles I envisioned, but hey, the month is over and I've got two extra books forlornly waiting for a home. So bring it on.

Hmm, I'm not sure what counts as asking nicely, but I try. Can I have one of the copies of Radio Freefall still seeking a home? It will nicely close the gap between Blindsight and Glasshouse in my book case.
In our house asking nicely involves the word "please" but close enough. The book is yours.
Me, me, me!!
Um. Sorry.
May I please have a book?
Disclaimer: I already have a copy (pre-ordered from Amazon, and reviewed), but it's not signed. I'd like one to match my awesome T-Shirt!
OK, I'll send you one, but on one condition. You take the copy you already have and give it to someone who is going to be at Denvention. When you give it to them, you casually mention that the book is eligible for the Hugo, and remind them that members of Worldcon are empowered to nominate books for the award. Just toss that out there, apropos of nothing.
I can totally do that. In fact, I already have a candidate in mind, whom I know will be attending. Thanks!
Matt, the book arrived yesterday, and I pimped it at http://hotchicksdigsmartmen.blogspot.com/2007/12/matt-jarpe-is-smart-man.html
Thanks very much, and we'll see you at Denvention!
You know, I thought our house had been hit by an earthquake the other day. Turns out that was just the Janiece Bump (patent pending). Thanks.
By the way, you owe us $7.50 for the commemorative Flintstone's juice glasses you knocked off our shelf. You can just buy me a beer in Denver and we'll call it even.
You're on. And I'm totally stealing the Janiece Bump (patent pending). I don't think it's quite in the scale of the Colbert Bump, but hey. You have to start somewhere.
Once again, many thanks for writing a great book that led me to a fun blog, that won me an even-better-special-signed-edition of the book I bought.
What's best is now I can have my signed copy (which will be worth millions in 20 years after you cross all boundaries and complete your 8 volume epic story of love and death in the Universe - soon to be a major motion picture event), and can pass along my original copy to my folks so then they will be prompted to buy your next book when it comes out!
Congrats on your Oscar win in 2027 btw.
Oh, you've got one of those almanacs from the future, do you? Does it have anything in there about the Tony awards? Because my awards shelf is going to look all lopsided without a Tony.
Yeah Luke, Pixelfish, Sean, Jorn and Janiece!
Radio Freefall: the Musical? Are you kidding? It's FAB-U-LOUS! Susan Stroman? Mel Brooks? Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick? A true masterpiece.
Yay! I just got my winner's copy in the mail today. Thank you. I'm totally saving this hand-addressed mailing envelope for the ebay auction in 20 years!
Man, I'm such a mook! I threw my packaging away!
But I do have the collectors set...
